Reel Movie Stars: Luke Wilson

Posted by H.I. McDonnough on April 17th, 2008

Luke Wilson Picture Following up Will Ferrell as our Reel Movie Star is no easy task.  We decided we’d let fellow Old School star, Luke Wilson go ahead and give it a try.

Most people know Luke as the younger brother and frequent co-star of Owen Wison, but Luke has certainly had an impressive career on his own.  Some fun facts from Luke’s career:

  • Has been in over thirty movies in the twelve years since Bottle Rocket
  • Made his directorial, writing, and producer debut with The Wendell Baker Story
  • Played Ashton Kutcher’s brother, Casey Kelso, in that 70’s show and appeared in six episodes
  • Appeared in Wes Anderson’s first three movies: Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, and The Royal Tenenbaums
  • Had a cameo in Scream 2 in the scary movie within the movie
  • Is considered a member of the Frat Pack alongside Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, and Steve Carrell

Now go ahead and check out Luke Wilson’s bio for his complete filmography or check out some funny Luke Wilson quotes.  As usual, we’ll leave you with a photo montage of this handsome actor.

Alexis Bledel Wonders About Sin City 2

Posted by Mr. Shrek on April 17th, 2008

Alexis Bledel hasn’t heard anything about Sin City 2. And the young actress hopes that doesn’t mean she’ll be left out of any potential sequenl

In regard to her character’s status from the original film, Bledel told MTV:

“It’s questionable, because in the last scene [you saw me], technically I’m supposed to die. There’s an assassin in the elevator with me and you assume I’m dead… But they’ve said that maybe I’m not dead. So, I don’t know what happens in that elevator… Maybe I killed the assassin. That’d be awesome!”

No matter what her status is in the Sin City franchise, Bledel is certainly a go for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. It comes out on August 8.

Reel Movie Reviews: 88 Minutes

Posted by Mr. Shrek on April 17th, 2008

reel-reviews-logo47.jpg We never thought we’d say this about an Al Pacino movie, but of all the films opening this weekend, 88 Minutes looks the most boring.

The supposed thriller looks like a cliched cat-and-mouse cop flick, with Pacino in the role of the hunted police officer, haunted by his past. Do critics around the nation agree with us? Let’s find out…

- 88 Minutes plays like a script Tom Cruise rejected back in the ’90s, forcing Pacino to run — across campus, across town, through parking garages, up and down stairs.New York Press

- 88 Minutes will add a little more luster to a career that has not been adequately appreciated perhaps because of the suspiciously seductive power of a little man with an outsize talent.New York Observer

- How Al Pacino found himself roped into this wacky movie is another mystery entirely and one that doesn’t take much research past the words “yacht payment” to solve.Brian Orndorf

- If one is the loneliest number, two is company, three is a crowd and four is an orgy, then eighty-eight must be the universal symbol for unwatchability.Arizona Daily Star

MTV Movie Awards Announces Movie Spoof Contest

Posted by Shawn Adler on April 17th, 2008

Movie Awards PopcornIt took over 25 years, $150 million, and some of the biggest names in show business to bring “Transformers” from an idea, to the big-screen, to a front row seat at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards.

It could take you as little as three minutes to join them.

MTV is calling all filmmakers, provocateurs, and amateur comedians for their “2008 Movie Spoof Contest,” with the winner eligible for a free trip to Los Angeles for the MTV Movie Awards on June 1 and their very own Golden Popcorn.

Think “Transformers” would have been better with Micro Machines? Does “Dis-Enchanted” sound more like your kind of fairy tale? Do you ponder over a version of “Into the Wild” where Emile Hirsch brought a friggin map?

Here’s how to take your funny idea to the grand stage:

First, have a funny idea for a spoof. To ensure quality, make sure to bat your idea around with friends. Try to find friends with names like Will Ferrell or Adam Sandler.

Second, make your spoof film. It can be no longer than three minutes in length, and has to be a spoof for one of these 24 films. Notice something? That’s right, no “There Will Be Blood.” So don’t go thinking you’re gonna get off easy with a milkshake joke.

Third, upload your film to one of these user-generated sites: Photobucket, MySpace, Daily Motion, Break, Buzznet, Heavy or FunnyorDie by May 11th at 11:59pm EST. Don’t upload to more than one of these sites, though. No fair cheating.

Fourth, wait for the praise to start rolling in. The best spoof from each of these sites will move onto the next round, where they will compete head to head Thunderdome style to crown an eventual champion.

Fifth, make sure to thank me when picking up your Golden Popcorn.

For more on the 2008 MTV MOVIE AWARDS check out www.movieawards.mtv.com and don’t forget to tune in to the live show on June 1 which will be hosted by Mike Myers.

Sound like fun? We’ll see you on the red carpet.

Sex and the City Movie Spoiler: A Character Dies?!?

Posted by Mr. Shrek on April 17th, 2008

Miranda HobbesTake this Sex and the City movie spoiler with a grain of salt the size of Perez Hilton’s ego.

But that celebrity gossip blogger has quoted Cynthia Nixon as saying a character will die in the upcoming big screen adaptation of the HBO series.

Tuesday night, at the Creation Nation comedy show at the Zipper Theater, Nixon reportedly told host Billy Eichner, “a character dies in the movie,” but refused to give any details.

We think this means one of two things:

  1. The story is not true;
  2. A minor character perishes. No way one of the big four, or any of their significant others, kicks the proverbial bucket.

We’ll all know for sure on May 30 when Sex and the City: The Movie comes out in theaters.

Happy Birthday, Jennifer Garner!

Posted by Mr. Shrek on April 17th, 2008

A happy 36th birthday is in order for lovely actress Jennifer Garner.

The beautiful wife of Ben Affleck has enjoyed a solid, versatile career. She made a name for herself as the best-looking spy in television history on Alias, and has followed up that TV stint with a number of film roles. They’ve ranged from romantic comedies to comic book adaptations.

A quick look at Garner’s movie resume:

Jennifer Garner Picture

Most of the story lines of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are still secret - but Harrison Ford recently told USA Today the movie will try to give new perspectives on his globe-trotting, fist-fighting archaeologist.

“He’s a guy who is pretty clear from the beginning,” Ford said. “He has not changed so much between films. But we’ve learned more about him, through various plot devices, such as the introduction of his father. And we’ll learn something more about him in this film. I think it’s required. If you’re going to bring back a character, you’ll have to supply the audience with something more and different. ”

Jackpot!

Ford added that “the adventure is very, very important. But it’s interesting to discover a facet of the character that perhaps you hadn’t explored before.”

Such as his age. Yes, even Indiana Jones must grow old, as the character’s development in life will reflect that of the man portraying him in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

“I think it’s an interesting element to take advantage of,” Ford said. “Clearly, it’s another challenge that he faces.”

Somehow, we think he’ll overcome it.
