That’s our question of the day, as Hollywood delivers us the weekend of “W”’s…both “Wanted” and Pixar’s “Wall-E” arrive in theaters today. So which of the two will you be checking out? Both? In one corner, you’ve got the universally-acclaimed flick featuring the cutest-ever-robot-in-the-history-of-Hollywood, and on the other you have Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy teaming with Morgan Freeman to deliver a mile-a-minute smattering of bullet-time craziness. Both are said to be fun, so which is it?

In the meantime, check out our report on “Wanted” below.

Cracking Open Pixar’s ‘Wall-E’ Easter Eggs

Posted by Shawn Adler on June 27th, 2008

'Wall-E'You might know that the biggest summer movie this year not involving superheroes is “Wall-E,” Pixar’s latest and greatest animated film. You might even be anxious to see it this weekend. But will you see everything? Like every Pixar movie, “Wall-E” is filled with Easter Eggs hidden throughout. Like what?

– In an article, I explored whether “Wall-E” was a cautionary tale about the environment. I’ll spoil it for you: It most certainly is. But don’t think the folks at Pixar aren’t at least acknowledging their own part in the problem. In the movie, Wall-E has a collection of unique trash he finds particularly interesting. One of those pieces of junk? “Hammy,” John Ratzenberger proclaimed of his “Toy Story” character. “He shows up in Wall-E’s junk pile.”

– Ratzenberger, himself is something of an Easter Egg, although less so in this film than in others. Dubbed Pixar’s good luck charm, the former “Cheers” barfly has voiced a character in every one of the animation studio’s films to date. He has possibly his biggest role yet in “Wall-E,” playing John, an inhabitant of the luxury space cruiser.

– All the Pixar movies make reference to A113, “the classroom at CalArts where a lot of us went to college,” director Andrew Stanton explained. In “Wall-E,” the number is the prime directive for Auto, the spaceship’s automatic pilot.

– Speaking of Auto, his character is one of the few robots in the film not “voiced” by legendary sound designer Ben Burtt. He could’ve been voiced by you – really. Auto’s voice is provided by MacTalk, an Apple computer speaking program.

– In virtually every movie since “Toy Story,” the Pizza Planet truck has made an appearance. It’s in “Wall-E” too “Well the Pizza Planet truck makes a QUICK appearance [but] a lot of people don’t seem to catch it,” Stanton grinned. “It’s funny. The really quick ones catch it. It’s in the first half of the movie.” Where exactly in the film? Well you wouldn’t want us to tell you everything would you?

Did you spot any Easter Eggs in “Wall-E”? Care to tell us where you saw the Pizza Planet truck? Sound off below.

Talk of 300 Sequel Heats Up

Posted by Mr. Shrek on June 27th, 2008

Collider.com talked to Mark Canton, Gianni Nunnari and Bernie Goldmann - the producers of 300 - earlier this week at 34th Annual Saturn Awards.

The trio made it sound like they were hopeful about a sequel to their blockbuster epic.

“We’re looking for another 300 and we’re looking for Frank Miller and Zack [Snyder] to do thier thing. We’ve had obviously, around the world, such an amazing journey,” Canton said. “It keeps on going.”

Would you see a 300 sequel?

When asked if the movie woud be a prequel Canton replied:

“No. We’re talking about the genius of Frank Miller, Zack Snyder and we’re talking seriously about something authentic.”

Mark Wahlberg Questions The Departed Sequel

Posted by Mr. Shrek on June 27th, 2008

Last year, Mark Wahlberg made it clear that he’d be interested in a sequel to The Departed, the eventual Best Picture winner.

“We may do another one, because it’s based on a Hong Kong film [Infernal Affairs], and there is a trilogy. So we may do a sequel with a new cast, and a prequel and bring back the rest of the guys,” he said at the time.

More than a year later, Wahlberg was asked by MTV where the project stands.

“They’re [still] developing it,” Wahlberg said. “If it can be better than the first, then great. I’ll be all for it. I’m not interested in going for the paycheck. I love Godfather 2 but, then again, I don’t like Godfather 3.”

Considering the demise of most main characters, and the high bar set by the first film, would you wanna see a sequel to The Departed?

The Baroness and Her Boobs

Posted by Mr. Shrek on June 27th, 2008

Sienna Miller, who plays The Baroness in the live-action G.I. Joe movie, may be natural beauty. But that wasn’t enough for director Stephen Sommers.

He thought she needed a bot of help in the cleavage department in order to pull off the role of the curvy bad girl in the upcoming action flick.

Miller recently said that Sommers set her up with some breast enhancements to be worn underneath the sexy costume she sports in the film.

“(I wear a) tight black leather outfit. And much bigger boobs,” Miller told The San Francisco Gate. “They gave me these things that looked like chicken filets. The director said, ‘I’m gonna be honest, I like girls with big boobs,’ and I don’t have them so we made them bigger… At least he’s honest. But I was mildly offended.”

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, fake boobs and all, comes out on August 7, 2009.

Cloverfield Sequel Placed on Hold

Posted by Mr. Shrek on June 27th, 2008

At first, a Cloverfield sequel was considered a foregone conclusion.

But Director Matt Reeves told SCI FI Wire that plans for a follow-up film have been put on hold until the filmmakers can come up with an idea as interesting as the original.

“The thing that we sort of promised ourselves is we only wanted to do another one if we could come up with something that felt as fresh to us to make as that one did,” Reeves said recently.

Reeves added:

“We’re still kind of toying with what it’s going to be and whether or not we’re going to find something that will be as exciting for us to make and, hopefully, for an audience to watch. So we’ll see. It’s really in the baby, baby stages. And right now it’s definitely on hold until we come up with what that would be.”

This is almost refreshing to hear. We’d love for there to be a Cloverfield sequel, but we’re glad the producers aren’t willing to throw any crap on screen, know what we mean?

Yup, that’s right. Seth MacFarlane, the creator of “Family Guy” and the voice behind many of its characters (Peter, Brian and Stewie, just to name a few), is expanding into Hollywood and we’ve got the first look at the result. In Guillermo del Toro’s “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” MacFarlane voices Johann Krauss, a powerful psychic whose soul is forced to reside within a protective suit. Watch it below and then click here to check out our interview with del Toro about the film. “Hellboy II” hits theaters on July 11.

Transformers 2 Promo: Revenge is Coming…

Posted by Mr. Shrek on June 27th, 2008

Let the Transformers 2 hype begin!

The following advertisement is on display at Hasbro Headquarters in Rhode Island:

Meanwhile, many movie fans have scoured the Internet and discovered set photos and videos from the filming for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. These take place at Princeton University… but for what purpose?

“[The university angle to the plot] “is all about Sam growing up and going to college… a teenager growing into a man,” Director Michael Bay said of the locale.

A man who plays with menacing robots, that is.
