Jason Statham Dishes on Death Race, The Transporter 3

Posted by Mr. Shrek on August 19th, 2008

With Death Race about to hit theaters, Jason Statham recently sat down to discuss this film with ReelzChannel, while also touching on another movie he just completed shooting.

What was it like shooting those racing scenes? Did you get to drive any of the cars?
They had many stunt cars. Any action movie that involves cars, they have multiple copies of the same car, so when they get mangled and bashed they just slip in the next one. One of the most difficult things was the fact that they don't have a lot of vision. The cars are covered in armor and there's very little vision that you can really draw any confidence from.

It's quite nerve-wracking to know where you are and who's coming up and who's not coming up, and the track's just full of dangerous pylons and steel girders. One mistake and it's over. So, it was a massive concern for the stunt coordinators involved, just because of the danger that those kind of things present. We just had to sort of go and do the best we could.

Jason Statham gets to work in Death Race.

Was there something specific you wanted to do with [Transporter 3]?
I wanted to make it better than the first two. I always felt the first one was the best one, for me. With the second one...I thought we could do better. We're always trying to do better. We just need more time and more money, and that's hard to get. If we're indulged with a little bit more money, a bit more of a budget, more time, more preparation, we can do something really, really good. But sometimes we don't get that. I think the third one's probably the best out of the three.

Ludacris Speaks on Max Payne Role

Posted by Mr. Shrek on August 19th, 2008

Ludacris is expanding his big screen resume with a role in the upcoming Max Payne movie.

The rapper told MTV News of a scene in the film - which stars Mark Wahlberg as the title character - where his character gets to have his way with Wahlberg’s vigilante.

“I’m the internal affairs investigator, Jim Bravura, and I’m just hounding Max Payne. Crazy thing about that is, whenever you see Mark Wahlberg, he’s usually playing those dominate characters, so this is the time I’m the one who’s dominate,” Ludacris said of his favorite scene in the upcoming video game to movie adaptation.

“I get to hound him. Trust me, it’s the best scene in the movie when I’m hounding the hell out of Mark Wahlberg because I’m the boss.”

Fans Clamor for Superman Franchise Reboot

Will Superman be the next iconic character to receive a franchise rebooting?

As fans might expect, Warner Brothers has been thrilled with how Christopher Nolan reinvented Batman for the new millennium with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. And McG sounds like he had big plans for Terminator Salvation.

But the studio hasn't been pleased with Bryan Singer's updated vision of Superman in Superman Returns. Now, according to Variety, the studio is trying to determine what direction to take the films starring the world's most well known superhero.

The publication writes:

Fans have been clamoring all over the web... for a complete reboot. And within the halls of Warner Bros. the same debate rages on. They too believe that the last movie didn't break the mold and wound up in some kind of middle limbo. Today I was told that it is a priority at the studio to find the right direction and if Bryan Singer is willing to do that, fine, but if he gets in the way, he may not stay on the project. There are no writers working on a Superman script now.

The studio wants to figure it out. "It might be better to start from scratch," one exec admitted.

Guillermo del Toro: Gollum Will Go CG Again

Posted by Mr. Shrek on August 19th, 2008

In a recent interview with IGN, director Guillermo del Toro assuaged fears that he would change the look of Gollum in The Hobbit.

When asked if he would continue with a CG Gollum, the Hellboy director said: "Absolutely. I think that it worked perfectly on the [Lord of the Rings] trilogy and if it ain't broke, why fix it?"

del Toro also had the following to say about special effects in general on The Hobbit:

"You have to be very careful not to rely on a single tool – and this is another thing that I share a passion for with Peter Jackson. We both are huge fans of 'old-world' techniques like maquettes, models, miniatures, paintings – and in the case of The Hobbit, I do intend to continue this trend and bring much more animatronics into the mix.

"We need to keep that art form alive, because it brings a textural power to the movie that ultimately affects the content. The creatures somehow seem more tactile and more tangible than CG."

Will James Franco Portray Jack Ryan?

Posted by Mr. Shrek on August 19th, 2008

Rumors have been swirling around the Internet that Sam Raimi might back out of his attachment to the next Jack Ryan movie.

The Spider-Man director was reportedly hired to reboot this franchise, which is based on a series of best-selling Tom Clancy novels, but is yet to sign a deal with Paramount.

According to CHUD, he may now walk away entirely because the two sides cannot agree on an actor to portray the role once held by Sean Connery, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.

Reportedly, Raimi wants James Franco, currently seen on-screen as Seth Rogen's buddy-pot dealer in Pineapple Express, to follow in the footsteps of the aforementioned actors.

But the studio reportedly prefers an actor with a more proven box office track record. We'll let you know which sides waivers first, but in the meantime let us know:

Could Franco pull off the role of Jack Ryan?
