Being a movie star sure seems easy. Free screenings, hanging out with other celebrities and parties at the Playboy Mansion are just part of a day in the life.

Well, this ascent onto the silver screen is something Tyson Ritter of the All-American Rejects is just getting used to. And let me tell you, after spending several hours on Ritter detail at the premiere of “The House Bunny” (which marks the head Reject’s film debut) I found out firsthand that superstardom does take its toll … on your patience and endurance, at least. But you would never know our little outing in Westwood, California, was Tyson’s first premiere, as he handled the evening — Playboy Mansion and all — like a true veteran.

So for those of us out there who have never walked the red carpet, sat next to Bruce Willis in a screening and then partied it up with Hef and friends (I think I speak for a lot of people out there), I now present you with my first time, courtesy of my fellow (more prominent) premiere newbie, Mr. Ritter.

Typically when it comes to movie premieres, we rack up interviews on the carpet, and then it’s a wrap. This time was a little different, as our goal was to capture the excitement, chaos and bewilderment of a rocker from the Midwest promoting his first movie role, direct from his point of view. From limo drop-off at the theater to being fished out of the grotto with a pool net as the sun comes up.

Step number one is the carpet. We squinted our way past dozens of photographers jockeying for the best photo of Tyson and his bandmates. From somewhere on the other side of the wall of flashbulbs, people were screaming at me to get out of the way. Phew, we made it. Continuing through the fluffy, pink gauntlet, Tyson began to make “the rounds” with all the interviewers. It astounded me how many times somebody can explain how great it was to work with Anna Faris without feeling ridiculous. Around the 10th interview, Tyson admitted that he felt ridiculous.

Step number two is the screening, a much-needed break. The Rejects took great pride in finding out their seats were better than Bruce Willis‘.

And, of course, step number three: the afterparty. Tyson’s eyes were as wide as dinner plates as we approached the building that every male has dreamed of visiting since he was old enough to hide Playboy magazines from his parents. Tyson and his bandmates exchanged many porn-related jokes that shall not be reprinted here (use your imagination), and we were greeted by the Playmates upon exiting the limo. And I hate to build up the most Hollywood night in my life only to end it here, but it was at this point the All-American Rejects and I said our goodbyes. Only celebrities are allowed inside the Mansion’s front doors. Whatever, I’m satisfied having even stood in the entryway.

But hey, Tyson, it’s cool. I understand that some people play rock music, hang out with beautiful women and star in movies for a living. Some people also write blog entries for a living. I mean, some people (read: me) would argue the two career paths are equally prolific, and now that you’ve given me a taste of your newly developed movie-star world, feel free to swing by my desk anytime you want. I’ll show you my ergonomic keyboard and my awesome new swivel chair.

'Virulents'As we reported last month, White Stripes frontman Jack White has joined forces with singing sensation Alicia Keys to bring to life the theme song for the upcoming Bond flick, “Quantum of Solace.” Titled “Another Way To Die,” the track will feature Keyes along with White, who pulls triple-duty as writer, producer and drummer on the collaboration that will mark the first duet in Bond history, according to the studio.

Now White is speaking out about the collaboration, stating: “After a couple of years of wanting to collaborate with Alicia Keys, it took James Bond himself to finally make it happen. Alicia put some electric energy into her breath that cemented itself into the magnetic tape. Very inspiring to watch. It gave me a new voice, and I wasn’t myself anymore. I drummed for her voice and she mimicked the guitar tones, then we joined our voices and screamed and moaned about these characters in the film and their isolation, having no one to trust, not even themselves. Maybe we became them for a few minutes.”

He continues: “The Memphis Horns were there to help us out, along with some of Nashville’s finest. Might be the first analogue Bond theme in twenty years, I don’t know. We wanted to push soul into those tapes, and join the family of Barry, Bassey, Connery and Craig.”

Are you looking forward to hearing a Keys/White joint on “Quantum of Solace”? Chime in below.

Stephenie Meyer Comments on Twilight Movie

Posted by Mr. Shrek on August 21st, 2008

Like many authors that have seen their books adapted for the big screen Twilight author Stephenie was worried that her words and characters wouldn't resonate well in a movie.

"I lost a few nights of sleep over it," Meyer told ReelzChannel. "More adaptations than not turn out badly. There are a few that are amazing, but most of the time it's not a good thing. But then on the other side, I saw the book very visually when I was writing it and to see one scene of it on the big screen, that was alluring. I didn't care about anyone else going to see it, that was about me alone in the theater getting to see it and having it be real. That's what swayed me."

Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer is the brains behind Twilight.

The writer continued:

"As an author, you can't try to control that kind of project. First of all, as an author, they won't let you. Second, it's a different medium and I don't know how to work in that medium. I was very much [of the opinion that] Summit knows what they are doing and when they had questions for me, I was ready to answer them and I really loved seeing what was going on.

I have not seen the whole thing yet, but from the script and from the days that I was on set, the goal was to make this as close to the book as possible given the time constraints of a film."

James McAvoy and Emily Blunt Will Be Gnomeo and Juliet

Posted by Mr. Shrek on August 21st, 2008

James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are in negotiations to portray the title roles of Gnomeo and Juliet, a CGI-animated Shakespeare adaptation from Miramax and Elton John's Rocket Pictures.

The movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will feature several classic songs by the iconic singer.

McAvoy, Blunt

In the loose and edgy adaptation of Shakespeare's rather well-known play, McAvoy (Atonement) and Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) will play lovers from rival gardens.

John, who is producing alongside his offscreen partner David Furnish, Baker Bloodworth and Steve Hamilton Shaw, is rumored to be pursuing big-name talent to voice supporting roles.

Reel Movie Reviews: Death Race

Posted by Mr. Shrek on August 21st, 2008

ReviewsGive Death Race credit for one thing: it's title says it all. There's no mistaking what you're in for when you buy a ticket to this Jason Statham movie.

According to an assortment of movie critics, though, that's where the good news concerning this film ends. Check out their negative views on it now...

- Bravely takes on that philosophical quandary every one of us must face: What to do when a ninja breaks into your home, frames you for the murder of your wife and taunts you with a finger-gun motion? -- Arizona Daily Star

- Loud, vulgar and stupid, but what's most amazing is that despite all the bedlam, it will probably either bore you to tears or send you into gales of unintended laughter... -- One Guy's Opinion

Death Race Movie Poster

- A serviceable, forgettable genre film marked by leaden performances, even more leaden dialogue, a few sterlingly gruesome images, and a supremely campy performance from Joan Allen... -- Slant Magazine

- Paul W.S. Anderson may have a lot of flaws as a filmmaker, but the man knows cheap thrills, and he delivers them here... -- Cinema Blend

Sure, Anna Faris is the house bunny of the title but why talk to one fetching young actress when you can chat up three? And when the three are Katharine McPhee, Emma Stone, and Rumer Willis, well, it’s best to just go with the flow. Two on one and three on one interviews tend to be the most difficult but this one was fun from the get go (check out the transcript here). Watch and enjoy as the ladies talk about “Playboy’ covers, who’s the most awkward, and who’s playing Batman soon (?!?).
