I don’t think I’m alone in saying British comedian Russell Brand was probably the stand-out star of the Judd Apatow-produced “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” (although lead Jason Segal got a nice Muppet deal outta it). Virtually unknown in America prior to the film, in short order he became a sensation, eventually landing on-stage as host of the MTV Video Music Awards. With “Sarah Marshall” now hitting DVD and Blu-ray, check out the karaoke version of his character’s hilarious music video below, along with his audition tape after the jump.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: With the internet absolutely a’blaze over the recent announcement that Kenneth Branagh could possibly be the director on Marvel’s upcoming “Thor” film, Splash Page decided to get current “Thor” comics writer J. Michael Straczynski’s take on the news.

“Honestly, I can’t imagine anyone better suited to this,” said Straczynski, who is more widely known as the creator of “Babylon 5” and more recently, the screenwriter of the upcoming Clint Eastwood-directed Oscar contender “Changeling.” “‘Thor,’ at his best, has always had a classical bent to the character in terms of his history, the way he speaks, and the often Shakespearean intrigues and dramas that surround him.” Read More…

Reel Movie Reviews: Nights in Rodanthe

Posted by Mr. Shrek on September 24th, 2008

Anyone who buys a ticket for Nights in Rodanthe knows exactly what he or she (who are we kidding? It's obviously "she") is getting into.

There will be teary admissions. Emotions run amok. Some sort of forced, romantic setting. The movie is based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, after all.

Adrienne and Paul

In our opinion - and in our complete Nights in Rodanthe review - there the setting was simply too phony to create any real emotion or sentimentality. But that may be precisely what many women out there are after.

Consider yourselves warned, fellas.

What Does Our Hip-Hop Brain Trust Think Of The ‘Notorious’ Trailer?

Johnny DeppIt was confirmed this afternoon that Jack Sparrow himself, Mr. Johnny Depp, would indeed be playing the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s upcoming “Alice in Wonderland” adaptation. But as exciting as that may be, we’ve all known that for quite a while.

No, the real news that’s breaking from the same Disney event is that it looks like Depp may just be taking on ANOTHER iconic role for the studio, that of the Lone Ranger. Here’s what our friends over at Comingsoon.net had to say: “During Disney’s preview today in Hollywood, the studio questioned who could possibly play the titular character in its upcoming feature The Lone Ranger.”

“At that, Disney rolled out the USC marching band to come down and play the Ranger’s theme song. This was followed by an appearance by Depp himself who took to the stage in full Captain Jack Sparrow attire…wearing The Lone Ranger’s mask.”

Intriguing, no? Alright not that the big casting is settled, anyone have someone in mind for Tonto?

UPDATE: Now apparently Disney reps are claiming Depp is in fact playing Tonto and NOT the Lone Ranger. This one gets odder by the moment.
