James McAvoy in 'Wanted'FROM SPLASH PAGE: When “Wanted” screenwriter Chris Morgan first helped bring to life the ultra-violent story about a world where supervillains had kicked out the good guys, he had some pretty impressive source material in Mark Millar and J.G. Jones’ critically praised graphic novel. While there won’t be the same ready-made reference for “Wanted 2,” the writer told MTV that shouldn’t be cause for concern among fans. And he should know, since he’s the one writing it.

“Yes, I will be writing it,” confirmed Morgan. “I’m actually leaving this conversation with you to go to a meeting with the director, Timur [Bekmambetov], and we’re talking about the story.”

Does President Obama Mean Will Smith Is Still Game For Biopic?

Posted by Brian Jacks on November 5th, 2008

When we caught up with mega-star Will Smith earlier this summer, the actor voiced his enthusiasm for playing Barack Obama in a big-screen biopic of the then-presidential candidate. “America loves ears, you know?” he joked with us, tugging on his familiar lengthy lobes.

All well and good since Obama himself told MTV that Smith was his first choice as an actor to bring his impressive story to the big-screen. So that begs the question, now that Obama’s presidential quest was a successful one, how long until Hollywood comes knocking on Smith’s door?

50 CentA few weeks ago, we brought you the news that bad boys Jason Statham, 50 Cent, and Mickey Rourke had joined the thriller “13” alongside up-and-comer Sam Riley.

As if that wasn’t an impressive enough cast, they’ve been joined by two new heavies — and we finally get the scoop on who’s playing whom. According to Variety, Ray Winstone and Ray Liotta are joining the cast, making this one group of guys you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley — or, in this case, an underground club.

Unfortunately, that’s just what poor Riley does. He discovers an ugly underground sport where the wealthy bet on the unlucky individuals sold into a Russian Roulette-like competition. Rourke will play a convict from a Mexican prison who is sold into the game, and 50 Cent the man employed to escort him to the bloody game.

Winstone will play a man sprung from a mental institution to join in the fun, and Statham will play a wealthy British man who bets on the competition, and has a particular interest in the fate of one of the players. Liotta plays a cop on the trail of such illegal activities, and who uses Riley as his way into the circle.

“13” definitely sounds like a pretty hardcore movie, and the cast is one that doesn’t pull any punches. It might be worth the ticket just to see who will win in the inevitable showdown. Imagine this as one big cage match — who do you think would win?
