Danny Boyle Says ‘Trainspotting’ Sequel Still A Few Years Away

Posted by Shawn Adler on November 19th, 2008

Danny BoyleRemember last year, when director Danny Boyle told MTV News that he was still very high on eventually filming “Porno,” the follow-up to his break-out hit “Trainspotting”? Turns out, Boyle said, the actors are now just as excited.

Now if they’d just lay off the goddarned moisturizer.

“Interestingly, they are about to put out yet another DVD of ‘Trainspotting,’ another edition, like they do, and they got all the actors together to do interviews for it and they all turned up, so I think they’re all starting to show a little appetite for it, for doing it again, and we’ve tickled them with this idea that it’s the same actors playing the same parts in the same city, but it’s got this fifteen year gap,” Boyle said of the long-gestating project.

“They all turned up for all these interviews and they did lovely interviews really, and you could see — it’s funny because as actors you do three or four movies a year and sort of swing in and out of focus. I think they realize that for the audience, their performance for those particular parts is something not going to be forgotten.

“But the trouble remains that they actually don’t look much different. They may have aged however long it’s been but they look exactly the same,” Boyle continued. “I mean, it’s terrible. You look at them and they don’t have any lines or anything. I think they just moisturize the whole time. Any time you don’t see them on camera they’re covered in moisturizer, resting in a spa to keep their looks. When time hits them, when age strikes, we’ll be ready.”

Released in 1996, “Trainspotting” centered on a group of heroin addicts (”Rent Boy,” “Sick Boy,” “Spud” and Begbie), and their adventures in Edinburgh, Scotland. “Porno” reunites the same cast of characters nine years later — some of whom have kicked their addiction, some of whom are beaten down by life, one of whom is in prison for manslaughter — when Sick Boy, now a heavy cocaine user, decides to make a porn film financed by Renton (McGregor).

For Boyle, though, the themes go much deeper, representing the same kind of conundrums for middle-aged men that the original film did for twenty-somethings.

“It would be about middle age really, that big crisis when you think, ‘What am I going to do with my life? Am I going to have kids? Am I going to settle down? What am I going to do? Am I going to make some money?’ It’s in that territory,” Boyle said. “And because of course, as actors they have aged, they’ll bring their own research, their own automatic research to something like that.”

Have you read “Porno”? Are you eagerly awaiting the movie adaptation? Sound off on your thoughts below.

Harrison Ford Considers Fifth Indiana Jones Movie

Posted by Mr. Shrek on November 19th, 2008

Harrison Ford won't stick a nail in the coffin of Indiana Jones.

The veteran actor recently talked with MTV about the possibility of a fifth movie in this beloved franchise. Here's how the conversation went:

MTV: Is a fifth Indiana Jones film inevitable?
Ford: I don’t know. If we come up with a good idea…

MTV: Is the ball in George’s court at this point?
Ford: It is. That’s the process. With some general input he goes off and searches for the MacGuffin and then stumbles into a story. And at some point we have a chance to take a look at and give some input.

MTV: The end of the last film leaves your character in a very intriguing position. He has a wife and a kid. Can he still be that man of adventure with those commitments?
Ford: And he’s seen something. Remember those are the only witness to what he’s seen. That’s kind of interesting.

Reel Movie Reviews: Bolt

Bolt won't go down in history as a classic children's tale, such as Shrek or Toy Story.

Still, you can't go wrong with an animated dog voiced by John Travolta and his best gal pal, voiced by Miley Cyrus.

MTV Twilighter Reacts To The Film! Soon It’s Your Turn!

Posted by Brian Jacks on November 19th, 2008

For many of you, the release of “Twilight” is the biggest event of the year. That was certainly the case with our MTV News colleague Nicole, who was among the select few to attend an early screening of the film last night here in New York City.

A die-hard Twilighter, she raced home afterwards and went straight to her webcam, recording her post-OME reaction on video. This isn’t a review (that’ll come later), but check out her general excitement below. And remember, as soon as YOU see “Twilight,” head on over to YouRHere.mtv.com to record your own thoughts on the film. We’ll share the best of them with all of you.

Release Date Announced for Saw VI

Posted by Mr. Shrek on November 19th, 2008

Saw VI is a go.

Kevin Greutert, who has served as the editor on all five previous installments in the series, will direct Saw VI, which has already received scheduled an October 23, 2009 release date.

"We always try to think of ways to blow the audiences' minds, but the audience is always trying to stay one step ahead of you, which makes it that much harder," the filmmaker said in a recent interview.

There's no end in sight to the Saw franchise. Does that scare you?

Added Greutert, who has been named the director for Saw VI:

"If it was the first in a series you really wouldn't know what to expect, but now the expectations for something unexpected to happen are so high, it makes it a lot harder. The only way to do it is to live and breathe it. I was just talking to Eric, the guy who plays Eric – Mark Rolston. I've got hundreds and hundreds of pages of every conceivable variation of what we can do with Saw VI and beyond.

One of those will hopefully be the thing that we get. But it's a matter of thinking through every possible thing we can imagine. And of course creating new characters that we think people will like and can contribute to the drama – that's important as well."

A Tropic Thunder DVD Clip

Posted by Mr. Shrek on November 19th, 2008

Tropic Thunder came out on DVD this week.

While the hilarious movie itself is likely enough to place it on many people's Netflix queue, here's a look at an extra from the DVD. It focuses on the gusty performance of Jay Baruchel...

While “Quantum of Solace” continues to make a bajillion dollars worldwide, over on the home video front MGM has released the first wave of six James Bond films in Blu-ray. On the docket? Volume One contains “Dr. No” (1962), “Live and Let Die” (1973) and “Die Another Day (2002),” with Volume Two picking up “From Russia with Love” (1973), “Thunderball” (1965) and “For Your Eyes Only” (1981). Additional releases are also planned for the rest of the franchise.

While some of the extras carry over from the previous “Ultimate” collection, the big selling point is (obviously) seeing these classic films in all their fully-restored, high-def glory. If you thought Sean Connery kicked ass in crummy low-res, just wait til you see him whip a chair in 1080p. So with that in mind, check out the memorable laser scene below from “Die Another Day” with Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry, and then after the jump feast your eyes on one of Sir Sean’s iconic fight scenes. The “James Bond Blu-ray Collection, Volumes 1 and 2” are available in stores now.

(After the jump, Sean Connery goes yachting!)

Josh Schwartz to Pen Script for X-Men: First Class

Posted by Mr. Shrek on November 19th, 2008

How many movies can they turn the X-Men franchise into?!?

A Wolverine film is already on the way, while a Magneto-based flick is all but assured.

Now, it's been announced that Josh Schwartz will write X-Men: First Class. The creator of The OC and Chuck will focus on the younger characters introduced in the previous films, teenagers with powers taught at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.

No release date has been announced for X-Men: First Class.
